Hardwood Maintenance

How to Maintain Hardwood Floors?

Nothing can add luxury and value to your home like a new hardwood floor. But, in order to maintain hardwood’s natural style and beauty, the floors do need to be properly maintained. Not sure how you should go about cleaning hardwood floors? Let the experts at Bachmeier Carpet One in Coralville, IA lead the way!

Routine Maintenance

Daily: It’s important to sweep your hardwood floor every day to remove dust and dirt from the surface. Dust and dirt can sometimes damage the finish or even scratch the surface. Also, be sure to wipe up any spills immediately to avoid stains and to protect the hardwood planks from warping.

We do recommend avoiding walking on your hardwood floor with dirty or wet shoes. If you think this may be an issue, it could be helpful to add an area rug near the room entrance. Then, people can wipe their feet before walking on the hardwood floor!

Weekly: In areas with moderate to heavy foot traffic, you may need to dry mop every week or so. Be sure to use a specialized treatment that is recommended by the manufacturer. Dry mopping removes any excess dirt and dust that remains even after sweeping.
