Carpet cleaning is certainly not as daunting as it seems. In fact, there are only a few different guidelines that we at Bachmeier Carpet One recommend following to ensure that your new carpet continues to look new for a long time.
By far the most important requirement is vacuuming. Usually, vacuuming once a week is sufficient, but the Carpet and Rug Institute does recommend vacuuming twice a week in areas with heavy foot traffic. Vacuuming is important because it removes almost all loose soil on the surface. In fact, over 80% of the soil is dry enough to be removed by vacuuming. By removing loose soil from the surface, you ensure that it will not be worked into the surface, where it could cause stains.
We recommend using a vacuum with adjustable and rotating brushes, mainly so that you set the vacuum to match the height of the carpet. It’s important to keep the vacuum brushes clean and to replace them when worn.
For spot stains, be sure to first follow any manufacturer instructions so you do not void any warranty. Also, be sure to check out our stain removal guidelines!
There are a few longer-term cleaning activities, including deep extraction. Deep extraction, which is usually performed by a carpet cleaning expert, removes dirt and other materials that have become embedded in carpet fibers. We think that it’s practical to set up a deep extraction every 12-18 months.
